Mobility aims to take the pulse of this enormously expanded and energetic field. It explores the breadth of the disciplinary areas mobility studies now encompass, examining the diverse conceptual and methodological approaches wielded within the field, and explores the utility of mobility to illuminate a cornucopia of mobile lives: from the mass movements of individuals within global processes such as migration and tourism, to homelessness and war; from the entangled relations caught up in the movement of disease, people and aid across borders, to the inability of someone to cross over a road.The new edition explores the more sustained elaboration of mobility studies within a wide variety of disciplinary approaches and subject matters. It is widely recognised that global warming has been largely caused by human action and, specifically, the production of greenhouse gases. It is also agreed that oil is a finite resource that may have already passed the point of peak production. The ways that we move are the second largest producer of greenhouse gases and the largest consumer of oil, meaning that these fluid days may be numbered. Drawing on an innovative project exploring current mobility transition policies and practices in 14 countries around the world, including key institutions such as the European Union and the United Nations, the authors provide a critique of current transitions, mobility and transport policies. There is no single book based on a single primary research project across so many global contexts that tackles this topic, and which presents and alternative, progressive approach to, and conceptualization of, mobility transition. "Crime, Regulation and Control during the Blitz looks at the social effect of bombing on urban centres like Liverpool, Coventry and London, critically examining how the wartime authorities struggled to regulate and control crime and offending during the Blitz. Focusing predominantly on Liverpool, it investigates how the authorities and citizens anticipated the aerial war, and how the State and local authorities proposed to contain and protect a population made unruly, potentially deviant and drawn into a new landscape of criminal regulation.
